Trendspotting – Parallax Scrolling
In the course of the Hering website relaunch we were looking for an elegant way to highlight the products and give the pure design a little twist.
Inspired by Nike’s “Better World” we used a parallax scrolling effect (realized with Javascript utilizing jQuery). This technique uses several foreground layers that move slightly faster than the background, which creates the illusion of depth and animation. Parallax scrolling can be applied horizontally and vertically but in case of Hering we concentrated on vertical scrolling as it fit best with the rich imagery.
These days more and more brands are enhancing their sites with parallax scrolling. Some best practice examples – besides Hering Berlin – being VW Beetle and Activate Drinks.
