For streetwear brand Carhartt, we developed an iPhone app that allows you to take Carhartt Radio with you — anywhere you go.
Along with art, skateboarding and BMX, music plays an important role in Carhartt’s overall brand message. Over the years they have built a very good reputation through consistently immersing themselves and connecting with musicians, producers, and DJs.
Every month, Carhartt Radio releases a new show that aims to be more than just your average DJ mix. Label owners, DJs and artists are invited to play, perform and talk about their own music and their backgrounds. The show used to only live on the web but now you can take it with you and tune in from wherever you are. From bubble-bath-soul to technical death metal, from booty beats to nerdy hip hop, from girl-pop to eclectic dubstep — there’s hours of music to discover.
For the programming we partnered with highly talented Cocoa developers Gernot Poetsch and Ullrich Schäfer from nxtbgthng. All of the radio shows are hosted on SoundCloud, whose offices are just around the corner from ours here in Berlin. Streaming the radio shows from SoundCloud’s infrastructure allows for seamless integration and growth. Carhartt’s music department uses our Ruby based tool to easily manage the app.
