The American Academy in Berlin is THE American cultural institution in Germany.
The American Academy in Berlin is the American cultural institution in Germany. Its goal is to foster greater dialogue between the people of the United States and the people of Germany. Here American scholars, writers, policy makers and artists pursue their work in the vibrant life of Berlin. Distinguished guests are regularly invited to readings, concerts and engaging discussions. The American Academy provides a unique cultural, social and political exchange at the highest level.
All this is expressed in The Berlin Journal. Edenspiekermann has transformed a formerly simple newsletter into a high-quality print magazine. As the face of the American Academy, The Berlin Journal is the place for intellectual life and current events. Its design reconciles the publication's two functions; a matte-coated perfect bound book for articles, poetry and photography by contemporary artists, journalists and political scientists, and a middle section of uncoated newspaper stock to report on recent and internal events at the American Academy, their Fellows, Alumni and Trustees.
Since 2002 Edenspiekermann and the American Academy have worked closely to uphold the American Academy image through The Berlin Journal and it's various programs. The combination of intellectuality, aesthetics and consistency makes The Berlin Journal one of the most distinguished English language magazines in Germany, with distribution also in the USA.
