Utrecht City Theatre is a leading theatre in Utrecht and the central Netherlands. It is a place where artistic quality, cultural and community engagement, passion, adventure and skill come together. It wants to appeal to a wide-ranging audience: visitors, performers and employees.
As a visitor, you want to be surprised, touched, made to laugh, or inspired to think. As a performer, you want to achieve that with the audience. Excitement, emotion and reflection are what drove our development of a custom typeface and logo.
All communication tools share a simple, colourful typographical concept. It is reminiscent of the era of Dudok, architect of the theatre, and brings it right up to date. The season programme and website, the exterior signage and branded car fleet: they all herald the new theatre season across the city. On banners, posters, bus shelters and even a fully branded Utrecht city bus. The organisation now has a starting point and the inspiration to further develop into a powerful cultural brand.
The Utrecht City Theatre identity design won several prizes since its launch in 2008. Among them are a Red Dot Award (2009), a European Design Award (2010) and a D&AD Award (2010).
